Health and physical training

Some examples of Personal Training

General Fitness Programming

A programme is designed to meet the physical capabilities of a person who has no special medical problems and is progressive in its design and nature. Suitable for those new to fitness and in reasonably good health. A cardio vascular programme is included meeting ACSM guidelines for weekly aerobic workouts.

Aerobic and Tone

A programme, as it suggests, of alternating cardiovascular training and resistance work, with or with out external resistance, dumbbells for example. For those clients’ with major weight concerns an all aerobic programme would initially be the preferred route.

Whole body development

An excellent foundation for a aspiring bodybuilder or any individual male or female who wants to make gains in lean muscle mass and at the same time reduce their body fat percentage. Whatever shape and size the client wants this can be built into the programming through periodization and the manipulation of fitness principles chiefly being F.I..T.T.A (manipulation of the variables) Overload - Progression and Specific Adaptation Imposed Demand. Recovery is also part of an effective training regime and is built into programming

Occupational Training

An exercise schedule can be tailored to meet the demands the person’s occupation identifying areas of weakness which could be brought on by their occupation and target these areas for specific and effective training. If a client is involved in a more physically challenging working environment the training can be designed to maximize optimum physical performance in their chosen employment whether working in the emergency services, as an example, or a nurse in a hospital or a private care home environment.

Specialist Areas

Below are just a few examples of specialist areas I train people in.

Sports Specific

An individually tailored periodised training regime can be designed for an aspiring or already established athlete. Training aims and goals are identified thereby forming the template for the athletes programming. Movement patterns and the biomechanical mechanisms involved in the chosen sporting discipline are studied closely and interwoven into the clients training schedule. Sports massage can compliment the training if the client requires this.

Pregnancy

Working with the client form tri-mester 1 to 3 and back again an essential fitness formula for the pregnant women which emphasizes postural awareness and assisting in reducing pain associated with pregnancy. The trainer can work closely with the client’s midwife or doctor in assessing and monitoring the client’s needs and concerns.

Joint Rehabilitation

Effective exercise prescription for problematic joints whether recovering from injury or arthritic in nature. A general fitness format exercise routine with rehabilitation built into the programming would normally be the way of progressing in this area

Spinal Stabilization and rehabilitation

One of the most common reasons for work absence is because of back pain. This could be from the lower back to mid back or upper. Sadly in today’s working environment many sedantry occupations amplify back instability and hasten the onset of problems which if not tackled can cause long term problems
A programme id designed around the client’s particular spinal instability working with the musculature to help realign the area thereby helping the client’s quality of life whether in the home or the workplace environments.

Older populations

Training of those of a more advanced in age is a specialist area. My approach is what I call the gentle approach. The physiological, neurological and overall medical considerations that need to be considered are numerous but with a progressive well balanced and rounded fitness programme there are major benefits to those in this age group. In fact having an effective weekly exercise routine mat delay the onset of ageing and the problems associated with it. More often than not the problems associated with ageing are brought on by inactivity rather than the age itself.

Propreoceptive and Neurological Awareness Training

A highly specialized area of training for individuals who have suffered a brain injury or who have poor motor co-ordination and balance. The client is trained in elements of physiological awareness through stimulation, both mentally and physiologically, in strengthening and lengthening of muscles. The principles of Pilates play a major role in this form of training with major benefits to clients who have suffered trauma which affects their movement patterns. This training maximizes progressively smooth and coordinated movements. The training is also beneficial for those with poor hand to eye coordination and have poor balance.
